Verified Purchase. I have been aware of The Phantom of the Opera musical for many years now, but just listened to the Broadway version for the first time this fall.
I was concentrating on following the storyline that I did not fully appreciate the music until listening to the songs the second, third, fourth Shortly thereafter, I watched the movie and that was just as great. While I kind of have a soft spot for the Broadway version since that was the first one I listened to, I decided to purchase the movie version soundtrack after much mental debate, mind you, phantom of the opera movie soundtrack download free mp3.
Both versions are well-done but different, so it all depends on your tastes. I personally like the Broadway "Phantom of the Opera" song orchestration better not a big fan of the movie jazzy feel and the fact they deleted a few lines bother me and the Entr'acte is lovely, which is skipped in the movie.
Emmy Rossum's timbre appeals to me much more than Sarah Brightman's Christine. Patrick Wilson and Steve Barton Raoul are equal in my eyes, phantom of the opera movie soundtrack download free mp3.
Gerard Butler and Michael Crawford Phantom are completely different singers, yet they both capture a unique nature of the character I enjoy both of their vocal depictions. If you haven't heard it, I encourage you to check it out.
I am totally addicted to listening to the CD in my car and it's one of those movies you can re-watch again and again. Gerard Butler may not be a true opera singer but brings such a moving, sexy feel to the Phantom character, and Emmy Rossum and Patrick Wilson's voices are amazing. One person found this helpful.
Gerard Butler is mesmerizing! We all know that many people and critics carped about this movie when it first came out. They didn't get it. This is not the stage show. This is a separate, multi-leveled, much more deeply layered story.
First, the bad news: the director overdid the operatic scenes which are too long. They hired Minnie Driver to play the most obnoxious diva ever created and she did it perfectly - both she and her character are appalling. I have to click through her scenes - they are truly unwatchable. Then, they took one of the sexiest numbers in the film Point of No Return and filled it with flamingo dancers prancing around the stage, distracting the viewers from the only thing we really care about - the love story.
The good news: The love story. The music. Gerry Butler. We all know how Andrew Lloyd Webber surpassed himself with the music for this show and he has only improved it with the additional music written for the film. It is swelling, sad, sensual and exciting.
In a word, "sublime". Now to the love story - this is a tough one. Patrick Wilson does his best in the part of the Viscount and, yes of course, Christine is supposed to fall in love with him. But come on. How can any woman, even a sheltered teenaged virgin, choose Raoul over the Phantom?
And that's the best part. Make no mistake, this is definitely Gerard Butler's movie. Even the extraordinary music doesn't over-shadow him, but only enhances him. The New York Times said he played the part with "sulfurous intensity". Guess that says it. But there is more. His rendition of "Music of the Night" is not about music - it is pure seduction. His "Point of No Return" if you can phantom of the opera movie soundtrack download free mp3 the flamingo dancers is verbal lovemaking.
He is so completely mesmerizing, it is impossible to take your eyes off him when he is on screen. The way he uses his voice - not just singing which was an impressive surprise - but the cadence, the emphasis on certain words draws you towards him. He uses his body in the same way. Perhaps the most remarkable aspect of this most remarkable performance is how he changes after he is "unmasked". Suddenly the voice is raspy with a gravelly quality born of his despair. The body which he had held so still as the mysterious, aloof Phantom, loosens and becomes edgier.
It is as though the removal of the mask had freed his soul. Gerard is an absolute revelation in this role and for that alone, this movie is worth seeing again and again. There is always more to unearth. It has everything: love, loneliness, loyalty, fear, hate and tragedy. And it has Gerry at his best! So, for all those pompous people who ignored it because they'd seen "the original", I can only say it is their loss.
They are missing a quite wonderful movie experience with those minor directorial mistakes mentioned above. For all those women out there looking for the perfect man who will love you forever, get a couple of bottles of wine, your best girlfriends, a box of tissues and be prepared to be enthralled.
I saw the Phantom on stage in Toronto. I did not see the movie until I enjoyed the movie much more than the play. When I saw the play I never got a good feeling of the story. Perhaps I was too close to the stage to get an overall look of it.
When I saw the movie, because you see everything up close, it was much more understandable. I bought the two disc version of the dvd and was interested in the explanation of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Joel Shumacker of the casting and the production. I think they did exactly what they intended As to the casting I loved Gerard Butler's version of the Phantom.
I think although actors like him may not have the voice of a professional singer they more than make up for it by their acting skills. When it comes to hiting the note or giving the emotion, the acting always wins. Emmy was very good and I love her low range voice even more than the higher range and there was no break in between, which you often get with opera singers. As to the story, I still cannot quite understand why Raoul bought her the music box, unless Christine was obsessed by the phantom during their marriage.
She should have really picked the phantom; so what if he gets mad and kills people every once in a while, it's his only fault. I'm joking My one regret is that I did not see the movie on the big screen.
I hope that some theatre nearby has a showing of it so that I can see it in its full splendor. I think it's somewhat like "Lawrence of Arabia" phantom of the opera movie soundtrack download free mp3 "The Fountain" that should be seen large to get the full video effect.
