What I like about Rune Factory is I dunno. I like the sense of progression? And the gameplay is tight, particularly in RF4. Solid combat, you can move at a quick pace, characters always have something to say. For whatever reason, I enjoy farming in my games, but having combat as an added diversion helps, and having missions to complete means I have an objective beyond just getting rich.
I've never played an Atelier game but it seems like it's just an anime boob game. Is there actual gameplay? Gleaner Heights looks like it's along the lines of what I'm looking for, although god damn is it visually unappealing! And I guess it's just 4-directional movement, like the original Harvest Moon? I don't particularly like My Time at Portia, and I enjoyed Stardew Valley well enough but feel more or less done with it.
